Spring

Spring in the mountains is a sight to behold.  Keith had meetings in Knoxville so we had  a glorious 10 days of April flowers.  We started our visit with a hike on the Gatlinburg Trail.  There were just a few flowers there but it was worth the walk. These are yellow trillium and baby iris.

Keith had meetings on Tuesday so I knit socks and binged on Netflix.

Wednesday we went in search of wildflowers.  I had read that Huskey Gap Trail was on the wildflower pilgrimage so we headed that way. It did not disappoint. In the summertime it's just a path through the woods that offers nothing but solitude but in the springtime it becomes a carpet of color.

There were pink trillium

And white trillium

Baby iris

And yellow trillium.

There was something called squirrel corn

And tons of other flowers and ferns.

The walk was 4 miles round trip. As an added bonus, I earned my 250 mile hiking pin!  Now I'm working towards 500 miles!

We spent Thursday working around the house, shopping, and getting ready for the arrival of the rest of the family.

On Friday Jeff and Keith took a BIG hike to Ramsey Cascades. ( 8 miles with 2400 feet change in elevation). That's another one they can mark off their bucket list!

Jenny and Bobby arrived on Friday afternoon.  We had great fun watching Bobby fly his drone off the deck.

It's not every day that we get to see our house from that perspective!

We had a big Low Country Boil dinner and ended our evening with Smore's on the fire pit and a hot battle of Phase 10 Dice.

Saturday's weather was way too nice to stay inside. We had a big mountain breakfast and then headed to Elkmont in search of more wild flowers.

These are white violets.

After our short hike, we introduced Bobby and Jenny to Old Dad's!  Their Club sandwiches always taste good after a hike!

We rested up and then had dinner at Park Grill.

On Sunday, after a lower deck drone flight, Jenny and Bobby headed back home and the rest of us hit the trail.

We went back over to Elkmont to do the Cucumber Gap Loop.  We saw even more (and different) wildflowers!  These are Toothwort.

Trout Lily

And this one I have not been able to identify.

After a few snacks and a lot of water we finished our 5.6 mile hike. We went back, cleaned up and Jeff headed home.  We added lots of miles and saw a rainbow of colorful flowers. Life is definitely good in the mountains, especially during wildflower season!
