By February the "SnowApocalypse" hit and we didn't even try to go to the mountain! A friend sent us pictures of the road. Chains were a necessity!
Finally, in March, we were able to get back up to the house to check on things. We had a light snow on Thursday.
It started warming up nicely on Friday so Keith and I walked on the greenway in Pigeon Forge.
The temperature was in the 30's on Saturday morning, but it was expected to soar into the 60's by afternoon so we were ready to hit the trails again!
The "Trail du Jour" was the Little River Trail. The guys had hiked it before in the summer, but wanted to go back to see it in the winter. It didn't disappoint. The trail runs beside the Little River in the Elkmont area of the park. We hiked the first 2 1/4 miles of it to the cascades.
The water was a beautiful shade of blue and really roaring from all the melted snow.
We were fascinated by all of the icicles hanging from the rocks and trees.
Then we headed back to Ole Dad's for lunch. They make the best sandwiches and homemade potato chips!
After a short nap we went to dinner at Timberwood Grill on the Island. With hiking and walking at the Island, we certainly logged a lot of steps!
On Sunday we walked the 1.5 mile loop that our street makes. Oh, my aching legs! It is so steep in places, you can easily reach down and touch the ground! But, I made it! Frankly, I like the wide, mostly level trails better.
Home on Monday, but looking forward to more hikes soon. I'm working towards my 100 mile hiking pin.
