September

When I opened my Blog, I couldn't believe I hadn't written since August!  It wasn't for a lack of adventures.  Ive just been too busy to write about them.

September started off with a trip to Nashville for the Kick off of UT football. We joined Danny's family for some tailgating fun and a big victory over Bowling Green.

It didn't seem right to be spending a major holiday away from the mountain so we drove back and spent our Labor Day hiking the Big Creek Trail.

Big Creek Trail follows an old railroad grade built by the Crestmont Lumber Company in the early 1900's to haul lumber out of the mountains.  The trail is smooth and wide with a gradual uphill slope. We hiked the 2.1 miles to Mouse Creek Falls with relative ease. Our first stop though was Midnight Hole, a very popular swimming hole.  The "Night Hole", as the locals call it, contains some of the clearest, bluest water in the Smokies.  It's a great place to cool off and watch the jumpers.

We continued our hike to Mouse Creek Falls. My favorite trails are the ones with waterfalls and this one did not disappoint.  A forty foot drop over moss-covered rocks is a beautiful sight!  I just wish it had been a little closer to the trail because the photos don't do it justice.

After our hike we had a Labor Day picnic and watched the swimmers. Then we headed home.

We spent just about every weekend in September at the mountains. We watched some disappointing football in Knoxville.  I did get to "high-five" Coach Jones.

We "checkerboarded" Neyland Stadium.

We stopped to say hello to a legend.

And we got introduced to some of Pigeon Forge's finest. (This deserves a blog of its very own soon!)

We also took time to explore some new trails and watch the bears tackle our persimmon tree.

All in all September offered a fantastic beginning to our Autumn Adventures.
